Emmanuel Ntome's Manifesto
MANIFESTO I Emmanuel Ole Ntome a student from the Faculty of Law aspiring CUEASO Chairperson 2017/2018 seeks to achieve the following if elected: 1.Transparency in Policy Making & implementation 2.Effective Mentorship programme 3.Improve Research and publications Transparency in Policy making and implementation I seek to make sure that all the University policies are clear to the students and make sure students are conversant with them.It is not enough that these policies be known but that they’re implemented in a fair and just manner that is pro students.I realized that the frustration most students experience in the University arises out of vague and unfavorable policies.Students don’t understand the school policies well and the implementation of the policies are never fair and just. New policies are often enacted and implemented without proper consultation with the students. This makes students feel neglected and ignored and yet they are the main stakeholders of the institution. This is the sole reason why many students aren’t proud of the University. Further short notice is always given towards the implementation of new policies. This again is a great Demoralizer. How do I intend to achieve this? I) Through sensitization of the student hand book and CUEASO Constitution The student handbook entails all the policies, rules and regulations of the University. If students are able to access it and read it then they’ll acquire proper understanding of the university policies and the procedures for their implementation. Every student is entitled to a copy of the student handbook and the CUEASO Constitution upon admission. However the reality is that most students have not been issued with this two books. I therefore seek to make sure students get these two important books. I’ll further go and run a sensitisation campaign about the books so as to encourage students to read and understand the books. 2.Effective Mentorship Programme I seek to start a Mentorship programme whereby students upon admission are attached to a mentor probably responsible senior student or a member of staff. The need for this is that mostly when students are admitted they find their way around University hence losing the sense of belonging or welcome. This demotivates them from engaging with other students in student activities. The first year students are new to University life and might therefore get carried away by the excitement and may lose focus. Mentorship is therefore necessary. The Mentorship will also include bringing in different professionals from different careers to mentor students in their respective fields of study. This will enable students appreciate their studies better. This will include hosting symposiums conferences and workshops. It will also include seeking to get easy placements of students in internships. I seek to achieve this through the help of the Counselling department and the Dean of students and faculty Deans with regards to first years Mentorship. With regards to professional mentorship I seek to achieve through the Alumni .I’ll will engage the alumni and request them to help in the symposium and conferences and also negotiate with them to give preference to our students in terms of internship opportunities in the organizations they work in or to network us. 3.Research and Publications What distinguishes an Institution of higher learning from high schools is the research and publications they do. Currently our University isn’t known for research and publications it has made. In fact there’s little evidence.Except the Faculty of theology which has done a considerable amount of publication and research papers there isn’t any other faculty that has done so.There are other research projects other than writing and research papers that need to be done and improve for example the students wgi came up with the electronic elections system. We need more of this If elected I intend to achieve this tthrough I) Sensitizing students on the importance of research papers II) Engaging CUEA Press to give moderate consideration of students projects 4.Promote Cultural and regional diversity Our Institution is compromised of students from the AMECEA community and beyond. It has students from the entire African Continent. Further it’s in the interest of the Institution to promote regional integration. I seek to achieve this by working with the leaders in CUEASO and by making me the cultural week more vibrant. I also engage the Institute for regional integration.

Isabella Mwebaza's Manifesto
Dear fellow students,
My name is ISABELLA MWEBAZA ALICE, I am a commerce student vying for the position of Cueaso VICE/DEPUTY PRESIDENT. During my time at Cuea, I have been heavily involved in the student union, and it has become a passion to get involved and give back to the organisation which has been key to my University experience. For almost two years I have been serving the students through clubs such as Aisec, International students Forums, preparation of cultural week, class representative since first year first semester and most fundamentally as the Vice president of the Ugandan community. It therefore goes without saying that i understand the role of Vice president considerably well. In these roles, I have tackled on issues which matter most to our students including student safety on campus, accommodation, rise in tuition fees, and academic plans. These experiences have provided me with daily direct contact and communication to hundreds of different students on different courses. Through these experiences I have been able to identify and gather information from students on what needs to be improved on Campus to give Cuea students the best service they deserve.
If I am elected Vice Chairmen I will make it my priority to ensure that:
· Encourage more students to participate in club activities
We all know that we have different clubs which exist, and we know that the school funds us; it’s therefore my role to ensure that each club gets the right funding. Right now, there is a new club, the drama club. I am also willing to go a further extent of creating talent clubs, innovative clubs that harness our true potential. For example, art club, music club, fashion club, painters club, drama club, that is what is lacking. We have too much substantive club, but none that are building our talents. Ladies and gentlemen, I am here to tell you what is achievable, I am not going to lie to you. Let’s be creative.
· Register movements and associations such as YCS
It has come to my attention that their some movements that are not registered and are therefore forced to share fund with other registered movements. If I get in office, I will push for their registration and make sure all of them share equal rights. On addition to that, I shall promote the registration of more societies and support their activities to promote active participation by all students involved. I believe that every student of this university has something they can do better; my job will be to encourage all groups/ individuals and be able to harness their capabilities while in school.
· Elimisha mwenzako.
Now, let me tell you the truth, the current regime didn’t work on Elimisha mwenzako, and if given the chance to serve, i will bring it back so that people can get the sponsorship. I know you are now wondering, how? What is my strategy? Let’s be realistic, I will not go for a marathon, cause the marathon doesn’t bring in a lot of cash, what i will do is organize events, such as a talent extravaganza, involving other institutions so that the people who will attend will pay entrance fee. This will raise funds for Elimisha Mwenzako and also nurture talents.
I will work hand in hand with my colleague who deals with student welfare to mobilize more students to go for Counseling. I will work in conjunction with the CUEASO executive and the university to provide more guidance/ assistance to vulnerable students experiencing personal, professional and/or academic difficulties. Improve advertisement of the Counseling Service. The counseling service is a service that is well used by university students and staff; however, there are still some students that are unaware of this facility. Also, there is often a stigma attached with going to see a counselor and I will try my best to rid this stigma. Students should feel free to accept help from a professional. I will properly advertise the counseling service on our website, social media platforms and use leaflets and posters around the university.
· Student center
The current regime has started a student center, but how are we going to manage this center among the students, we shall make sure that the student center is purely for students, the rent, and revenues that comes from there is purely for students, we shall renegotiate with the school so that a portion of rent / revenues comes to the Elimisha Mwenzako initiative. It has to be entirely for students benefit.
· Bridge between students and administration
I will encourage dialog between students, the academia and other stakeholders to ensure that our graduates are better trained and equipped to compete favorable with others in the job market. I shall work hard to encourage the participation of corporate bodies via seminars, symposiums, conferences, internships (short/long) and corporate visits by our students to help all us understand the skills we will require to be able to single ourselves out in the tough employment market of today.
· Students Welfare
I understand that university can be tough at times, either in your economic, social or emotional life. I want to ensure that our students union is there to help you overcome these barriers by focusing on the rights and welfare of students. It has been my passion to contribute to the welfare of students in our University; I wish to take my contributions to the next level. I plan to make the students union more student-centric, open and closer to every student irrespective of race, nationality, gender, religion, and/ or believes. I plan to make the union a hub of ideas where students will be free to contribute their opinions as with regards to what happens inside and outside of the student union. I wouldn’t just stop at campaigning against the tuition fees increase, rather will go a step further to ensure that the increase is justified with a corresponding increase in the quality of education that we receive in our university.
A spirit of ('WE) TOGETHERNESS, UNITY, SOLIDARITY
My aim is to create a strong sense of togetherness as I feel our Students Union and its student members have lost that cohesion. I believe through improving our services and attitudes within the Students Union we can finally create a feeling of inclusiveness. If I were to be elected I would ensure all students would have a more fulfilled and rich experience of this aspect of their university life, which every student deserves.
I would like to assure all students of CUEA in every moment STUDENT UNION will be next to them to provide help and support. Student Union’s all activities will be accountable and transparent to all and also student will be an active part of the Student Union. Student’s opinion will be valued.
I am extremely dedicated to the Union and what it stands for. I am also highly passionate in representing students and I am determined to succeed in winning my campaign which plays an integral part in students’ life. “Let’s Create a Union to be proud of; one that is open, united, representative and accountable. One that is willing to work and fight for students so that their dreams are back within reach.”

Amina Mohamed's Manifesto
AMINA MALIUN MOHAMED
My name is Amina Maliun Mohamed a 3rd year student at the Faculty of Law. During my time in CUEA, I have been involved in various student activities. I have served as the Secretary General of the Kenya Model United Nation (KMUN) and hosted different student functions such as Finalist Dinner and Cultural week. In my Faculty I have previously served as a student representative to the department of Public law and represented my faculty different Moot Court Competition. These experiences have provided me skills that I feel can be used to serve the larger student body as their Secretary General and it therefore goes without saying that I understand clearly what it entails to be a student leader. Given the opportunity, the following as but some of the issues that I will seek to achieve.
WORK STUDY PROGRAM
The work study program is available to needy students. Currently students can work in the library and maintainance office (garage). I believe that the work study program can be extended to areas such as cleaning and gardening to offer a bigger number of students an opportunity to earn an extra coin. With the new Safaricom students centre coming up, I will ensure that it is solely run by students.
Security within and outside the university needs to be enhanced. Arrangements should be made for students who use the library up to 11pm. Due to recent loss of student property in the Library, the camera at the library need to be function to curb theft of laptops and books.
Security lights from the library need to be increased for proper lighting along the LRC road.
The hostels that offer accommodation to our students should be mobilized to get involved in student activities. We are their sole source of business and as such should be brought on board to advertise their facilities. This creates competition and with competition comes quality services at better rates.
Continuity of management is key to quality service. As the Secretary General I will work to ensure there is hygiene at the different places we take our meals. This also include the container who pour dirty water in the trenches and at times the smell in unbearable.
Follow up on the management to provide running water for students. Drinking water is essential as not all students can afford bottled drinking water on a daily basis.
FUNDING FOR SCHOOOL ACTIVITIES.
As a student who has participated in several student activities which serve to market the institution, together with my team mates, we will push for an increase in funding for student activities.
I understand that university can be tough at times, either in your economic, social or emotional life and that is why you should vote in a student body that serves your interest in a competent manner.

2.Oversee the reopening and smooth running of the cafeteria. This will be through an all inclusive committee.
3.Organise internal and external events for talented comrades to display their art. This will create auspacious links and networking among comrades.
4. Ensure that the buses are to the service of the students. CUEA is a private institution and therefore you deserve private services.

Laura Eileen's Manifesto
As a secretary general i will be charged to take care of the students' welfare. Below are some of the issues that i would like to tackle if given a chance;
Every admitted student of The Catholic University of Eastern Africa deserves to be regarded as such and should be protected from any form of discrimination along religious, gender, social, cultural and any other lines. I will work to ensure that ALL students get an equal shot to enjoy the opportunities and benefits available through and in the University.
Every group and faculty will be well represented in the student government. I will work with the students to ensure that the electoral rules and regulations are revised so that every student can participate in the electoral process.
▪ I encourage students to use the infirmary since there is no consultation fee and it is affordable.
▪ I will work to ensure that we achieve the highest hygienic standards.
▪ The school needs accommodation for its growing student population. I will start this conversation with the relevant authorities to ensure this is realized.
▪ I will ensure that the food; caters for the diverse student needs, meets quality, quantity and remains affordable.
The Fee policy needs to be reversed and revised. It’s neither sustainable nor student friendly. We need to find a way of enforcing the 40- 35-25 policy.
The transport policy in this school will have to revisited. Transport should be made available to every student at subsidized rates and to the various clubs for their activities.
WORK STUDY PROGRAMME
Expansion of the programe to include jobs like slashing and cleaning so that more students get opportunities. Have more students employed in the cafeteria. Coca cola kiosk will be run by the students. Students will also be given opportunities to work during holidays.
Thank you very much and i hope that you will give me the opportunity to serve you and work for you.

OBJECTIVE: Increase significantly active participation of students in the different sports teams and games in CUEA by offering them adequate motivation so as to increase the competitiveness of our school in the sport department and therefore better the value of CUEA in the eyes of the general public.
1) Better Financial Incentives: Fee Discounts (And probably Scholarships) for members of the different teams in CUEA. This benefit is aimed at making sure we recruit the best given the competitiveness that will be created in even having the privilege of being a member of a team in CUEA.
2) Proper Fist-aid kits for the teams: The aim here is to cater for the safety need of the players when they are delivering for our university in the different activities and competitions. This will clearly entail employment of first aid specialists.
3) I will fight for the organization of a CUEA open on a regular basis, ideally once every semester, the aim being to enhance the interaction of CUEA and other universities and learning institutions and public awareness of our beautiful institution and its potentials.
4) In collaboration with the sports tutor, I will ensure diversification in competitions, especially for Olympic disciplines like running and swimming.
5) In the aim of increasing participation of players who live far from school, I will negotiate for a bus to pick them at 7:30 pm.
Proper facilities for our games and sport:
1) Plan and push for the construction a properly functioning gym, with adequate equipment.
2) In the aim of developing our indoor games and follow the path set by the current Deputy Secretary, I will prepare and present to the administration a plan for the construction of an indoor arena for our different indoor games, this includes: Table tennis, badminton, pool, darts. Given the probable long-term aspect of this, I will temporarily require the construction of a tent that will allow us to carry out the different games.
3) Ensure the renovation of different courts and fields, especially the basketball court that has raised concerns both by our players and visiting teams.
4) In collaboration with the Publicity secretary and the sports tutor, I will ensure proper communication to our students on the different sports activities available to them and the different events thereof.

Johnstone Jaldesa's Manifesto
I am Johnstone Duba a third year from faculty of education eyeing for position of publicity secretary 2017 /2018.
Here is outline of my manifesto;
I will ensure the student will get relevant information from administration and CUEASO in time. I will employ social media, notice board, faulty representative, and various committees
I will ensure students will be informed beforehand so that they prepare in advance. I appreciate the support of school towards this outstanding event of celebrating the beauty of our diversity. On top of that I will seek support from sponsors to mark this event.
Being a member in research and publication committee I will lobby for avenues whereby our skills (creative and writing) could be nurtured. The school magazine should be up and running .If the money will be a challenge alternatively we can print few which will be placed in designated places like libraries and CUEASO office.
We live in a society and we share things in common with our neighbours. Namely roads, accommodation, social welfare in general among many .This relation need to be strengthened for the benefit of us students. It is my humble request as publicity particularly on accommodation that all hostel owners to be given equal opportunity to advertise their service here at school during admissions, this will create competition and at long run student will reap more because they will get opportunity to select where they can fit considering their pockets and quality of services offered by hostel owners.

Alexandra Nawa's Manifesto
I am Alexandra Tody Nawa from the faculty of commerce; I am form Liberia, West Africa. I am vying for the post of international student representation. According to the CUEASO constitution page 14 states that as an international student representative I have three main responsibilities, which are: 1.To facilitate international students’ welfare as it relates to reception and orientation of new students. 2.To collaborate with the immigration’s office for efficient processing of the relevant student documents. 3.To promote CUEA in others country by being in conjunction with the international students and the relevant university authority. That is, if you are picked up from the airport or bus stations you are taken directly to your hostel. 4.Mentorship of new international students by CUEA international students associations. This is done to guide the new international students, in that if you are from a francophone country you will be pair with someone who understand and speaks French well, this person will be assist you on the day of orientation by helping you follow the procedure of registration, taking of ID photos and filling of the various forms needed, and that mentors is intended to teach you the various ways to do things in CUEA and the netting greeting of CUEA. 5.I will organized an international food sale month in CUEA. Carolle Simutengu's Manifesto
My name is Carolle Simutengu, a student in the faculty of commerce and a Zambian . I am standing and looking forward to being the International Students Representative at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.
Why Carolle? Being an international student myself I am well aware of some of the challenges that they face and hence given the opportunity i want to be that person that helps them adapt to the environment in school thereby finding it easy to get access and help this will mean working alongside the students and administration while being guided by the CUEASO constitution and spiritual guidance from God .
1 Acquisition of student pass- the process of acquiring the student pass can be a long and rigorous one without the right guidance . My aim is to facilitate the reception and orientation of new students and help them acquire the necessary documents by working hand in hand with the Dean of students and the immigration office and personally deal with the application and collection of the student pass. Students will only have to avail themselves to the immigration office when applying for their Alien card and for this I will require the full cooperation of the students 2 cultural shock Because of the need to adapt to a new environment students face a social cultural barrier that compels them to seek people from their country because it makes them feel home away from home. Staying immersed in one's culture and making friends with people from their country will not help students grow socially nor academically. Hence I intend to help students move from their comfort zone and embrace their new environment, to take full advantage of the resources and people available to them in campus thereby helping them with their oral and social skills. Also help them understand that interacting with students from other countries will help them build an international network of friends for future success. 3 Build a support system BE YOUR BROTHERS KEEPER I intend to work with students especially Kenyans and ask for their support in ensuring international students find them more approachable and be willing to help them with the language, currency and the best places to get accommodation. The people we are comfortable with where once strangers hence if we portray the same curtsey to others but for a more selfless reason it will help us grow not just as individuals but as part of the CUEA family 4 Taking advantage of opportunities in school - the school creates a platform that allows students to mingle and get to know more about the nationalities of other students , but this is a platform that we Haven't fully taken advantage of thats why with the help and guidance of the publicity secretary and full participation of all nationalities i m going to ensure that students use cultural week and the international students dinner to their full capacity. I believe that change is possible as long as there's a will. And I am answerable to the student body i will NOT make promises i cant keep. Therefore i humbly ask for the students to vote for me to make a difference because change happens gradually. The right person for the right reasons.
Thank you and God bless

John Wangai's Manifesto
Am JOHN WANGAI a second year student seeking the opportunity to represent comrades as the INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS REP. and make CUEA a home for everybody,a home far from home.Being a Kenyan national doesn’t impede my potential to represent and champion for the welfare of International Students. As a matter of fact since CUEA was started in 3rd September 1984,the post has always been held by international students and they have not been able to address the many challenges facing our fellow comrades. We need significant paradigm shift to curb the notion that only international students can hold that post. AGENDA. 1.I will work hand in hand with the immigration office in CUEA as stipulated in the cueaso constitution ARTICLE 12(vii)a ,and work on simplifying up the process of processing the student pass, shortening the time of processing and increasing the visa of stay as you wait for the pass. This will be by forming a committee comprised of international students from different nationalities. The committee will be supervised by me and its role will be to help in the challenge of getting the pass. I will also work on the ammendment of the cueaso constitution to incorporate the INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WELFARE COMMITTEE which will be leading in championing the needs of our fellow comrades. 2.I will work on maintaining the international practices that have always been upheld in CUEA before such as the cultural week and international dinner which are held annually. I will also ensure all major international events of all countries represented in CUEA are honoured. The events includes independence day and major crisis marked in the national calender. This will involve raising the half-post for the specific nation in crisis. I will also work on use of national symbols.we all understand that national symbols tell us about our history,a show of patriotism, unity&identity. 3.I will work to enhance international students unity by; -facilitating them to meet regularly and have sports activities at least every semester by introducing eg. CUEA INTERNATIONAL CUP tournament -organising&promoting events like eg.TANZANIAN NIGHT,CONGOLESE NIGHT,SOUTH SUDANESE NIGHT,RWANDESE NIGHT among others. -organising for international language classes 4.I will set up a committee comprised of international students from different nationalities and the relevant university authority to aid in marketing CUEA abroad. I will also work on maintaining and improving the relationship between CUEA and other universities abroad,by picking universities with better rankings and negotiate on facilitating the exchange program. I will also work with officials of various clubs&movements eg.Aisec to ensure those going for exchange programs abroad are fully assisted by the University management. 5.I will work to ensure that for students instead of having attachment only in 3rd year, every long holiday from 1st year to 3rd year, students should be organised by the university management either judicial/industrial attachment. This will help the students to be fully conversant with what is happening in the corporate world and be great proffessionals in future.it will not only be a plus to the students but also the university will become a world class university producing transformative students. Kindly support me in this noble duty to make ‘CUEA A HOME FAR FROM HOME' Kindly Vote JOHN WANGAI as the INTERNATIONAL STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE CUEASO 2017/2018
